Who doesn’t want extra money? I don’t know many people who don’t want extra income. Oh sure, perhaps there are some people who don’t care that much about money, and are genuinely quite content with what they have. Or at least I would totally understand if that was the case.
But most, if they were to answer honestly, wouldn’t mind having extra money. After all, there are a lot of demands for our money. You know – kids (raising them and sending them to college), retirement, housing, transportation, etc. Additionally, there are quite a few things that we might actually want for our lives that cost some money too.
So, how can one make extra money?
Well, before we dive into that, I have to say that we shouldn’t spend our time in such a way that our day job is ever compromised. Keeping with the philosophy that we should focus on what’s important and do what needs to be done first, let’s make sure we prioritize our career and main source of income first.
With that said and out of the way, here are 3 straightforward ways that one can earn extra income:
- Freelance. Depending on what skills you have acquired during your career, you might be able to do some side projects for businesses and other organizations. Many of these entities have the need for a variety of different projects to be completed, yet they might not have the capacity to bring somebody on full-time. Thus, there might be freelance project opportunities. Use your network to help make you and your skills known.
- Teach. Teaching can take on a variety of different forms. It might entail tutoring, or helping people with academic endeavors. Or, it could mean leveraging skills you mastered when younger and helping others learn. For example, if you were a skilled piano player or tennis player, you can make earn some extra income teaching people on the side.
- Start a Website. There are plenty of people who can be interested in what you have to say, as there are probably many others who share your passions. It might be personal finance (like this site), cooking, travel, sports, or one of many other types of niches for which there are plenty of readers out there. There are plenty of hosting options out there, and WordPress hosting using Bluehost is one of the inexpensive ones. It’s easy and inexpensive to get a domain, get a host, and start writing! The best part is that there are quite a few people that make extra money doing it, and some make very good money by running a website.
A great thing about these approaches is that people can invest as much time and effort as they want to in order to make money. While many just dabble to make a few extra dollars, I’ve known people that have made solid side income with each option!
