Hi everyone. You have come to the right place – this is still Squirrelers!
If you visit often, you have probably noticed that the site looks different. The layout and theme are visually quite a bit different than what it had been, after I decided to make some changes.
Why did I make changes?
Good question! I started Squirrelers in early 2010, after just getting started with blogging. At the time, I just happened to look through the available themes, and picked one that had a layout that seemed organized and had good feedback online. After that, I spent a little more time putting together the Squirrel logo, where it was holding the green dollar sign.
The layout was something I liked, and especially the logo (which has become synonymous with the blog), and was happy with how things looked. Then, after a couple of years, I noticed that there were many other blogs out there with updated presentation. Newer blogs, in particular, seem to start out with fresh, clean looking visuals.
I had been thinking about making a change for some time, but just hadn’t taken a step to do so. Then, just recently, I had some back-end technical issues that cropped up. While trying to figure out how to deal with those, I figured that I might as well just go ahead and take the plunge with a new look to the site. After 3.5 years, some updating was needed. So, here it is!
What has changed?
First of all, the content and focus are the same. Just the visuals have changed. Along those lines, the first thing that jumps out might be the logo. Gone is the original black and white squirrel with the dollar sign in the upper right corner, and in is a more modern, colorful logo in the upper left corner. It’s still holding a dollar sign as before 🙂
Beyond that, I’ve gone to the Genesis framework. Gone is the overall green presence, and it’s replaced with a white background all around with a smattering of black and green. The icons have changed a bit as well, and there is one sidebar versus two previously. Hopefully, the site has a brighter, clean look while appearing more professionally done.
I worked with Andrea over at Nuts and Bolts Media on this, and was very pleased with her work in making the transition quickly and right in line with what I was looking for. She knows what she’s doing.
Here’s hoping you like the newly updated look to Squirrelers!
Love it! Andrea rocks! Your site looks great! (Had a wonderful time at dinner at Fincon)
Thanks Barb! Yes, that was a nice group we pulled together for dinner – nice for all to get to each other a bit more.
Gorgeous. Well done, Andrea!
Looks great! I love the sticky header.
Looks great. Love it! 🙂
I love your new look – and the new logo! The little squirrel on the branch is great 🙂
Diggin the new look! Genesis has really been getting big lately, that or I’m just now noticing it 🙂 Hopefully the writing doesn’t suffer from how pretty it looks now!
Thanks… though had to LOL about “pretty” being associated with me 🙂
Looks great! I’m thinking of using Genesis too – Jason at Live Real Now recommended it as well as several others at FinCon. I need something that is mobile friendly.
Oh, and I wondered what the ‘G’ is for on the tap in Chrome?
That’s the standard Genesis favicon. It can be replaced with a custom one but it takes ages for the browser to update.
Looking good!
Thanks to everyone for the feedback – I’m glad all of you like the redesign!
I like nice, clean themes like this. It’s good to have a theme that can auto-adjust to the size of the browser, too.
Really like the new look! Andrea always does a great job!
Late to the party, but looking good! Going for a more simple, clean look, did you have iOS 7 in mind? Nice job Andrea!
