The following is from Melissa Batai
Are you an Amazon Prime member? If so, you might have seen the recent news that Amazon Prime is going to see a significant price increase from $99 a year to $119 a year. That averages out to $9.92 a month, up from $8.25 a month, and that jump has many Prime members wondering whether Amazon Prime is still worth the price.
I’ve been a long time Prime member, and for me, Amazon is still worth the price, even with a 20% increase. Here’s why:
I shop Amazon several times a month. In the last month, we ordered a backpack and shoes for my husband, gold origami paper for one of the kids, and a book for me. My husband researched the things he wanted and then put them in the cart for me to order later.
We don’t have a lot of time to shop around at stores, so Amazon is perfect. Recently I did take the time to search brick and mortar stores to find gold origami paper; I spent several hours driving around town looking for it, and in the end, the only place I found it was on Amazon. Why didn’t I shop there in the first place?
Free Two-Day Shipping
Besides the convenience, I love Amazon’s free two-day shipping. True, if I weren’t a Prime member I could keep adding things to my cart until I reached $25 (when Amazon gives free shipping), but I prefer the convenience of being able to order things when needed like the gold origami paper, even if it is a small order. I really hate paying shipping when I order online, and I also hate the lag in waiting for my items to come. Amazon takes care of both of those issues.
Amazon Prime Videos
We have a Netflix subscription, but we find that having Amazon Prime Videos also available rounds out our selections. We enjoy many Amazon Prime original offerings including The Man in the High Castle and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, but we also like some of the classics that are available. The kids and I watch a show at night before they go to bed; for months we watched the many episodes of The Amazing Race available on Prime, and now we’re watching I Love Lucy.
While this isn’t available in our area, I can’t wait until it is so I can take advantage of it. Amazon Fresh offers grocery delivery service to a limited portion of the country. This service can be added on to your Prime subscription for $14.99 a month. Simply place your order, and the next day, your groceries are delivered in a time frame of your choice.
As a Prime member, you get limited access to Audible, called Audible Channels. There, you can access a small, rotating number of original audio series and comedies.
Do I wish Amazon Prime did not increase its annual fee? Sure, but I’m still willing to pay what they ask for the convenience and the many perks.
My Question for You
Do you have an Amazon Prime account? If so, did you keep your account despite the price increase? If so, what perks of the subscription do you most enjoy?
